Dutch Design Week - Ode to the City
PROJECT & EVENT MANAGEMENT | ART DIRECTION
Dutch Design Week wanted Klokgebouw to be the beating heart of Design Week.
Dutch Design Week (DDW) was in need of a new, fresh concept and interpretation for one of their locations: Klokgebouw. The client wish was to establish Klokgebouw as the beating heart of Design Week and to improve the quality of the exhibition.
In October of each year, Dutch Design Week (DDW) takes place in Eindhoven. The biggest design event in Northern Europe presents the work and ideas of more than 2600 designers to more than 300,000 visitors from home and abroad. The emphasis of the design week is on experimentation, innovation and cross-overs. Major attention is given each year to the work and development of young talent. DDW concentrates on the design of the future and the future of design. It is their objective to show how designers from around the world shape a positive future and to strengthen the position and significance of Dutch designers.
What we did for them
We were invited as art director and we formulated a new direction for Klokgebouw, working with the theme ‘Ode to the city’. Our vision for Klokgebouw was to create an overview exhibition of the total range of exhibitors throughout the city of Eindhoven, which was the must-see starting point for both professional visitors and the general public. We suggested a more international approach and initiated for the first time an international Call for Entries, giving international designers a chance to present their work in Eindhoven.
Organisation in Design curated and selected the national and international designers, was responsible for the presentation layout and made sure the overall quality of the exhibition was outstanding. This latter aspect was also noticed by the media:
“Not to be missed is Klokgebouw, where about eighty designers and brands exhibit – these are fewer than last year, but the quality has improved considerably." Jeroen Junte, De Volkskrant
